Yeah I run Vista.
I had to basically rebuild my system (needed to anyway), and the first 6 months were painful. I went with the 32bit version for drivers and such, even though I run a amd64 x2 chip now. Not sure if that was the right move, but at the time the 64bit RC of vista was sucking a big one.
As of now, with the latest drivers, its not quite as fast as XP for gaming. Its getting close though. Also I heard the Audio and Networking stacks were both total rewrites, so there are still lingering issues (no mic action on my headset UGH), but the MS PR machine says that will be better in the long run.
Also, I hear people whining about UAC (the security warnings in vista), but personally I LIKE being notified if something tries to touch something that requires elevated permissions. I'm kinda paranoid like that.
Anyways, I wouldn't go out and buy it. Get it OEM with a PC or from Microsoft. I got mine by watching 3 web casts for C# programming or something like that.
It does have plenty of cool features, but its not quite ready for prime time yet in my opinion. |
